Austin Ad Fed - Just Ad People
Letter from the President

Give it away, it comes back.

You should be proud of yourselves. You volunteered in record numbers for our public service campaigns, the ADDY Awards, and committees like Cultural Diversity. The results?

  • Hill Country Ride for AIDS raised a record $483,000.
  • Art From the Streets sold a record $84,000 of paintings by homeless artists.
  • The SIMSFoundation–providing mental health care to Austin musicians and their families–doubled its caseload in 90 days.
  • You provided offices, phones, and internet access for Ad Fed members across the south displaced by hurricanes.
  • Our members won record numbers of District ADDYs, and just brought home a very respectable seven National ADDYs (tied with Los Angeles).
  • You just won District Club of the Year. And three first place Club Achievement Awards worth $1,100 in prize money that will go to scholarships and public service campaigns.

You should be proud of your accomplishments, and the club to which you belong. I certainly am.

Our Club Achievement reports can be downloaded from our updated website. By any measure, we did great: winning three times at the four-state District level and twice nationally.

So thank you, Heroes of Advertising, for all your Good Work. By producing and entering the ADDYs, you gained the recognition you deserve. By your pro-bono service campaigns you made a huge difference to our neighbors in need. And while doing it you made new friends, learned new skills, built your portfolio and won ADDYs.

Keep up the Good Work by visiting www.austinadfed.com and look for ways to Get Involved. Keep giving it away. It'll keep coming back.

P.S. To everyone who donated a total of $4995 to the Team Ad Fed Veloci-Peddlers, thank you, my friends. And a very special thanks to Sentient Services' Paul Janowitz and Mike Elhaj who donated $1000 to my Hill Country Ride for AIDS. Advertising Angels, those guys.

P.P.S. We're still working on the web redesign. We hope to include pictures of more Ad Fed members in the months to come. Thanks to John Langford for his great photos.

Hill Country Ride for AIDS Raises Record $483,000

Six Austin Ad Fed members joined a record 402 riders in raising $483,000 for the April 29 Hill County Ride for AIDS. "Over seven years the ride has raised more than $2 million for Central Texans living with HIV and AIDS," said Ride Director David Smith. "This money is so important to their health, safety, and dignity. Our riders, volunteers, and their donors have created an amazing community of kindness."

For the third year in a row Austin Ad Fed members designed and produced the pro-bono marketing and advertising campaign. CULTURAL DIVERSITY

The Ad Fed Diversity Committee send a call for participation in our Job Shadow Day which exposes students to career paths in advertising, scheduled for June 15th. Students will spend a day at a local ad agency or creative department as they interact with real advertising professionals. This is a great opportunity to promote diversity in advertising and develop mentoring relationships with Austin area youth.

The Diversity Committee will conduct a diversity survey of the Austin ad community as we continue to develop realistic strategies for increasing minority interest and participation in the ad industry.

We want to thank all of those who participated in our March Ad Fed luncheon in which Cultural Diversity Chair, Carl Settles moderated a spirited discussion featuring some the cities top experts on advertising in the African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Gay and Lesbian markets.

Carl has formed a consortium of creative services professionals who are serious about addressing issues on diversity See Carl's sub-Urban Media blog http://blogs.sub-UrbanMedia.com for on-going discussions, resources and ways to get involved.
