UT Advertising Professor Deborah Morrison received the Educator of the Year award. Austin Ad Federation members chose Katherine Jones of Milkshake Media as the Ad Woman of the Year. Shannon Carter of The Cartis Group received the Ad Man of the Year Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to GSD&M principal Roy Spence.
Big Wig winners were voted for and elected by the members of the Austin Ad Fed. The 2005-2006 Board of Directors was approved by members at the luncheon. Scott Van Osdol, Photographer, will serve as president for the 2nd time in five years. VP of Public Service Valerie Davis, Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia, returns for her 3rd term. Davis won the Silver Service Award for outstanding service to the ad community. She helped write a report on Austin's public service programs that will receive a national Club Achievement Award at the American Advertising Federation Convention in Nashville on June 4. New Vice President of Membership Cassandra Turner, American Statesman, will receive a national Club Achievement Award for the membership report she helped write. Yahoo! Inc. Awards Texas State University San Marcos First Place in 2005 AAF National Student Advertising Competition Students from the Texas State University San Marcos won the American Advertising Federation (AAF) 2005 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) for an ad campaign created for Yahoo! Inc. "All the NSAC campaigns were terrific, but we thought the Texas State University San Marcos campaign was the best combination of integrated marketing and viral marketing," said Murray Gaylord, vice president brand marketing for leading global Internet company, Yahoo! Inc. "It was a big idea that would break through the clutter." Judges from Yahoo! and its agencies Ogilvy. One, OMD Digital and Soho Square chose Texas State University San Marcos over 15 college and university finalists competing at the AAF National Conference 2005 in Nashville. The Ad Fed Marketing group helped the Hill Country Ride for Aids raise over $442,000 in the over 100 mile ride. 80% of funds raised go for local AIDS education and prevention programs, and direct support for families living with HIV and AIDS. Thanks to all ad fed riders, designers and volunteers for this effort. The campaign also won national recognition, (see below). Austin Ad Fed's public service clients includes: SIMS-brand refreshment, two new poster series, fundraising support, and ongoing work for SIMS's 10th anniversary year. "We selected these organizations because we knew with some great advertising assistance, they could achieve measurable results," said Valerie Davis, Austin Ad Fed's VP of public service and principal at Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia Inc. The public service award carries a $1300 grant from the American Advertising Federation. The funds will be used to develop new campaigns. The American Advertising Federation awarded first place to the Austin Advertising Federation for its ongoing commitment and dedication to public service. "We must give credit to all the advertising professionals in the Austin community who worked evenings and weekends for our public clients the SIMS Foundation, the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, and Art From the Streets," said Austin Ad Fed president Scott Van Osdol. "Their hard work produced quantifiable results. Our 2004 and 2005 Hill Country Ride for AIDS campaigns helped grow donations to $441,000 from $320,000, a 38 per cent increase in two years. And because our members donated their talent and services, the ride was able to deliver over 80% of all donations to local AIDS service organizations providing AIDS education and direct assistance to families living with HIV/AIDS." The Austin Ad Fed also won a first place Membership Club Achievement Award for service to its members, which includes the opportunity to work on pro-bono campaigns. The awards were presented at the recent national convention in Nashville.
