Austin Ad Fed - Just Ad People
President's Letter

Give it away. It'll come back.

No, it's not the latest trend in Zen Advertising, it's a proven model that drives new business to your door, makes you new friends, wins ADDYs, and earns you the goodwill of potential clients.

Pro-bono work—for the good—offers great creative and learning opportunities. You can flex your creative muscles, practice management skills, and produce ideas that push the envelope.

And the beauty is, you own it. It's in your book. So you can charge for it next time. Whoever said pro-bono doesn't pay isn't paying attention. It pays great.

The Ad Fed offers many pro-bono opportunities. Our public service programs repeatedly earn regional and national acclaim.

Help these great organizations and help yourself at the same time. Visit Public Service and sign up. You'll have fun, we promise.

And you'll see what we've come to know is true - give it away, it comes back.

We'd love to hear what members are up to, pro-bono or other. Send news, articles, comments or suggestions to news@austinadfed.com!

Sincerely,

Scott Van Osdol

President, Austin Advertising Federation

Yahoo! Inc. Awards Texas State University San Marcos First Place in 2005 AAF National Student Advertising Competition

Students from the Texas State University San Marcos won the American Advertising Federation (AAF) 2005 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) for an ad campaign created for Yahoo! Inc.

"All the NSAC campaigns were terrific, but we thought the Texas State University San Marcos campaign was the best combination of integrated marketing and viral marketing," said Murray Gaylord, vice president brand marketing for leading global Internet company, Yahoo! Inc. "It was a big idea that would break through the clutter." Judges from Yahoo! and its agencies Ogilvy. One, OMD Digital and Soho Square chose Texas State University San Marcos over 15 college and university finalists competing at the AAF National Conference 2005 in Nashville.

The Texas State University San Marcos won the competition with its targeted campaign from their agency "i5 Advertising." read more

PUBLIC SERVICE

The Ad Fed Marketing group helped the Hill Country Ride for Aids raise over $442,000 in the over 100 mile ride. 80% of funds raised go for local AIDS education and prevention programs, and direct support for families living with HIV and AIDS. Thanks to all ad fed riders, designers and volunteers for this effort. The campaign also won national recognition, (see below).

Austin Ad Fed's public service clients includes:

• SIMS-brand refreshment, two new poster series, fundraising support, and ongoing work for SIMS's 10th anniversary year.

• Hill Country Ride for AIDS-2nd year of support; posters, brochures, web.

• Art from the Streets-event promotion, photography, and ADDY-winning television public service announcement.

"We selected these organizations because we knew with some great advertising assistance, they could achieve measurable results," said Valerie Davis, Austin Ad Fed's VP of public service and principal at Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia Inc.

The public service award carries a $1300 grant from the American Advertising Federation. The funds will be used to develop new campaigns.

NATIONAL NEWS

Austin Advertising Federation Wins Prestigious National Honor.

The American Advertising Federation awarded first place to the Austin Advertising Federation for its ongoing commitment and dedication to public service.

"We must give credit to all the advertising professionals in the Austin community who worked evenings and weekends for our public clients the SIMS Foundation, the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, and Art From the Streets," said Austin Ad Fed president Scott Van Osdol.

"Their hard work produced quantifiable results. Our 2004 and 2005 Hill Country Ride for AIDS campaigns helped grow donations to $441,000 from $320,000, a 38 per cent increase in two years. And because our members donated their talent and services, the ride was able to deliver over 80% of all donations to local AIDS service organizations providing AIDS education and direct assistance to families living with HIV/AIDS."

The Austin Ad Fed also won a first place Membership Club Achievement Award for service to its members, which includes the opportunity to work on pro-bono campaigns. The awards were presented at the recent national convention in Nashville.
