Texas State Team Finishes Third in District 10 Yet Remains a Big Winner
By Jody Gibson, Advertising Senior Lecturer, Texas State University
Although the Bobcats had the highest presentation score of all teams competing, and won two of three extra awards given at the conference, the Texas State NSAC team placed third in the American Advertising Federation’s District 10 contest a few weeks ago in Fort Worth. First place was awarded to Texas Christian University. Seventeen universities from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas competed with advertising/marketing plans for national client, Coke Classic.
"These students did a top-notch job and created an integrated marketing communications plan for the client, aimed at multicultural youth," said Mary Ann Stutts, marketing professor and team co-advisor.
Senior advertising student Jason Dominguez was named the “Best Presenter” out of the 85 in the competition, and senior PR student Natasha McBride accepted the “Best Promotions” award on behalf of Texas State’s i5 Advertising agency. Antonio Banos, Advertising, won a Most Promising Minority Student scholarship and was the recipient of the largest scholarship at the event, the June Cerrato Tenth District Advertising Scholarship. Texas State won the most awards of any team competing.
“It’s hard to explain the subjectivity of judging when you feel you’ve done your best, but it’s a fact of life in the advertising business, and this experience is just the beginning for these students,” added Jody Gibson, advertising senior lecturer and NSAC co-advisor. “We just want the team and everyone else to know that they did a remarkable job. They are winners to us.”
Texas State is proudly the most winning team of any university in the nation, consistently placing in the top four at district and nationals. The ability to consistently finish among the top teams, year after year, is what makes a winning record, and Texas State is proud of its winning tradition.
Co-advisors Jody Gibson, Advertising, and Mary Ann Stutts, Marketing, would like to sincerely thank the AAF, alumni, faculty, administration, ad clubs and professionals who have supported this effort throughout the years. The success of this program would not be what it is without them.
