“Made to Order For 2017 Public Service Award”
AUSTIN, TX, OCTOBER 30, 2017. The Austin Advertising Federation has awarded Keep Austin Fed as their 2017 Public Service Campaign. Each year Austin Ad Fed (Austin’s oldest professional association) selects one non-profit organization to support with its vast network of over 2,000 members within the local advertising industry. Keep Austin Fed’s mission is to rescue safe, edible food that would otherwise go to waste from restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, and schools and offer it to hungry residents of Austin. They coordinate a volunteer delivery system through a distribution hub and offer “rescued” foods to those in need through partnerships with community organizations, like: Foundation Communities, Caritas, Salvation Army, and Austin-area women’s and children’s shelters.
“We are so excited about being chosen by the Austin Ad Fed, “ said Lisa Barden, Program Director for Keep Austin Fed, “Each of our volunteers saves about 785 pounds per month of perfectly good food rescued and redistributed to people in need. The organizations we serve provide food to about 9,000 people per week, but there are an estimated 180.000 people in Austin facing food insecurity every day.
Feeding people with surplus food is the highest priority when it comes to diverting food from the waste stream, and the top recommendation for the City’s Universal Recycling Ordinance. At Keep Austin Fed, the key limitation to rescuing more food is the number of volunteers we have available to do it. We’ve participated with other advertising and marketing organizations for day or weekend long ‘hackathon’ type events, and have gotten some great ideas from them. But we are really looking forward to working with the Austin Ad Fed not only for their creativity, but also for their commitment to help implement these great ideas.”
Austin Ad Fed’s Public Service Committee will be working to provide Keep Austin Fed with more volunteers for food delivery drivers, social media implementation, office management, and back of house operations. Austin Ad Fed will assist with volunteer recruitment, community involvement, and engagement analysis. Volunteers for Keep Austin Fed are encouraged to sign up via GivePulse.com or send a message to email@example.com. For more information on Keep Austin Fed, visit www.keepaustinfed.org.
Austin Ad Fed’s Public Service Committee will soon be sending out RFPs for the next year’s Public Service Campaign Award. Non-profits who wish to be considered are encouraged to contact Austin Ad Fed via www.austinadfed.com.
